Doing a roadtrip this spring and will have a few days in SF. There is lots to see so I don't want to spend too much time shopping. However, I want to bring something back for my girlfriend and some other lesbians in my life. I'm well aware that there will probably be a large area in which to browse "dyke souvenirs", but just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what shop absolutely can't be missed. Like I said, don't want to spend too much time shopping around.

Well, you will see the Castro, I'm sure, but there you will likely find mostly gay-male paraphenalia (with a sprinkling of dyke-esque items.) But while you are in the Castro, there is a great bookstore called A Different Light, that has a fairly big lesbian section of items.

Otherwise, there is of course Good Vibrations, which is not a lesbian establishment, per se, but it's extremely lesbian (and female in general) friendly.

You'll likely go to The Lexington Bar too, and if so, get one of their hoodies or t-shirts.. it has a great drawing and logo on it.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.. :)

Actually there are a few really great gay stuff stores in the castro. I cant remember the names but know exactly where they are located.
      Go to castro st.
it wouldnt take more than an hour to walk the entire street to see all the cool stores and you will no doubt stumble onto the two in particular I'm talking about.
One is located at the corner of castro and market/noe.
It's near the corner bar twin peaks. Tons of really cool gay related stuff.
Then walk down castro towards 18th st. Hang a left a 18th and you will see another one past the midnight sun bar.
lots of cool jewely and other stuff.
I think there is another one on castro past 18th st.

But seriously, If you walk the 2 blocks of castro that is considered the gay shopping area, the one block to the right or left on 18th, that just about covers the castro.
Couldnt take more than an hour to cover.
Stop at Marcello's for some of the most kick ass pizza. (at the top of castro at market)

(and two of those suggestions do have a male bent on them, but they still have very cool neutral stuff as well)

In the Mission, if you like good coffee, try Ritual, Valencia between 21/22. And a few blocks up is good vibes, a few down is Paxton Gate (a really wierd animal part and plant store ish thing), and next door is the Pirate store with the free fish theatre. Bombay Ice Cream for great Green Tea is down the street too, also, my favorite thrift store is Mission Thirft and is near by. I highly suggest the fish theatre.

Sara, I know that we've never met, but will you go shopping with me <lol>? You just named all of my favorite mission stores in one post <swoon>. I mean, *everybody* loves a fetal pig followed by some saffron-rose ice cream cone, right?? Awesome.
